8 oz. Lavender flower

Country of Origin: France

Also known as Lavandula Officinalis, lavender flowers/buds come from the plant family Lamiaceae (which also include mints) and have a variety of uses. They are very aromatic, and they maintain full aroma when in dry form. In terms of texture, they are dry but not crunchy. The flower buds are extremely light, so a small quantity will go a long way. The small buds originate from the flowers that bloom from late spring to early autumn and vary from rich purple color to pale lavender.

In terms of aromatherapy, the lavender scent is commonly used for relaxation and peace of mind.  The buds are a great substitution to those who don’t like working directly with the oils. Some studies suggest that consuming lavender as a tea can help digestive issues such as vomiting, nausea, intestinal gas, upset stomach, and abdominal swelling. In addition to helping with digestive problems, lavender is used to help relieve pain from headaches, sprains, toothaches, and sores.

– Lavender Extra is about 30% purple and 70% greenish gray buds
– Lavender Surchoix is about 50% purple and 50% greenish gray buds
– Lavender Super is 70% purple buds and 30% greenish gray buds.

Dried Lavender Buds and Flowers

The dried lavender Buds are great for making sachets that can be placed around the house, in drawers or commonly ignored household areas (think lavender moth balls). The sachets are great to hang near the door, window or even throughout your car to keep insects at bay.  Pictured below is our “Super”. You can also add them to a bowl as a potpourri, either by themselves or with other dried botanicals (Note they are most aromatic when placed in sunny/warm locations). They are great for making floral bath water, eye pillows (or simply adding to your regular pillow case for a fabulous nights sleep), or mixing into your soap making to add a gentle exfoliate to your final product.

You can even put them on the carpet before vacuuming to add some fragrance to your carpet when cleaning.  The possibilities are endless!

Finally, these lavender buds make great confetti for that upcoming wedding as they are extremely fragrant and earth-friendly.

Whatever your use, dried botanicals are fantastic for people looking for an all-natural way to scent their homemade goodies. They also add a wonderful coloring (pictured above is the Super) and texture to those soaps and bath and body products.

Please note always recommend checking with a physician before ingesting our using herbal products, in particular, if you are pregnant, nursing, or using other medications.
